We mainly know Xiaomi for its smartphones, tablets, and other smart devices. But the Chinese tech manufacturer is now also building cars. With the new Sky Nomad N90, Xiaomi is taking a striking next step. Indeed, this massive family SUV will also get a special camping edition featuring a pop-top roof and sleeping accommodations.
Measuring 5.29 metres in length, nearly 2 metres in width, and with a wheelbase of 3.08 metres, the Sky Nomad N90 certainly lives up to its name. The SUV will be available as a five- and seven-seater. The latter version features a 2+2+3 layout, with two individual seats in the second row and a rear bench for three people.
The completely flat floor and long rails in the interior allow for various configurations. When the vehicle is stationary, the front seats can rotate 180 degrees. Combined with the second row, this creates a seating area of sorts. A small table fits between the seats, while the sliding center console can serve as a bar or workspace.
Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi is presenting the N90 not just as a means of transport, but as a mobile living space. According to the brand, depending on the layout, the interior can transform into a workspace, café, lounge, or play area for the family. The second-row seats feature adjustable leg rests, and a sliding screen on the ceiling provides on-board entertainment.
For campers, the Sky Nomad N90 Max Camping Edition is particularly interesting. Xiaomi equips this version with a pop-top roof and a sleeping platform. In addition, side furniture and a connection for a side tent are on the equipment list. A removable table and a projection system are optional.
With the pop-top roof folded down, the camping version stands 1.93 metres tall. The vehicle has an unladen weight of a whopping 2,840 kg and accommodates five people.
The Sky Nomad N90 is not a fully electric car like the Xiaomi SU7 and YU7. Instead, it uses a so-called range extender. The electric motors drive the wheels, while a 1.5-litre petrol engine generates electricity on the go to recharge the battery. The petrol engine therefore has no direct connection to the wheels.
The N90 Max features all-wheel drive with two electric motors of 210 and 100 kW. Together, they deliver 310 kW, or approximately 421 hp. The battery has a capacity of 76 kWh. According to Chinese vehicle documents, the electric range is about 370 kilometres under the WLTC testing standard. With a full battery and fuel tank, the total range is said to exceed 1,500 kilometres. In practice, of course, these distances depend on factors such as speed, temperature, load, and driving style.
Xiaomi will officially present the Sky Nomad N90 Max and the smaller N70 Max in China on 30 July 2026. The company is then also likely to reveal more about the equipment, release date, and pricing.
