The United Kingdom is a beautiful destination and a great place for camping. However, as of today – April 2, 2025 – travelers from EU countries must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before entering the country.
The ETA is a mandatory electronic travel permit for travelers from visa-free countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium. This system aims to enhance border security and streamline the immigration process. The scheme is similar to existing systems in the US and Canada.
Dutch travel agencies expect longer wait times at the UK border due to the introduction of the ETA. They advise travelers to apply for their permit well in advance to avoid delays or being denied boarding on a flight, train, or boat to the UK.
The UK government emphasizes that this measure helps to gain better insight into incoming travelers and prevent individuals who may pose a potential risk from entering the country.
The ETA is suitable for vacations, family visits, business trips, and short study periods. Those who wish to work or pursue full-time studies must apply for a regular visa.
Make sure to apply for your ETA well in advance to ensure a smooth travel experience!
