Skywalk Willingen
This list of breathtaking suspension bridges in Europe starts with the longest suspension bridge in Germany: Skywalk Willingen. A trip to Austria, where many suspension bridges can be found, inspired the initiators to also realize such a structure in their own country. At 665 meters, Skywalk Willingen is considerably longer than the other bridges in this German list. The bridge can be found in the Willinger Strycktal, directly at the Mühlenkopfschanze.

Titan-RT
In the middle of the Rappbodetal in the Harz, the Titan-RT was opened in 2017. This suspension bridge offers a view of the Bode reservoir. From the two attachment points in the slate rocks on either side, the bridge is 483 metres long. The Titan-RT is open every month of the year except January, and therefore offers a different view every time. Real daredevils can jump from the bridge with the Gigaswing, a jump with a free fall of 75 metres.

Wild Line Suspension Bridge
In Bad Wildbad, in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, hangs the Wild Line Suspension Bridge. Two pylons and two steel cables support this bridge in the Black Forest, which can sometimes wobble a bit. Are you coming by car? Then you can park it in one of the four parking garages in the center of Bad Wildbad. From there it is about a twenty-minute walk to the bridge. Campers can park in the Kurpark in the Kernerstraße. A visit to the Wild Line Suspension Bridge can be nicely combined with a walk along the treetop path of the Black Forest and a ride on the Sommerbergbahn.

Geierlay suspension bridge
The Geierlay suspension bridge opened in the autumn of 2015. This bridge in Rhineland-Palatinate, above the Mörsdorfer Bachtal, is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Activities take place regularly. The visitor centre can be found in Mörsdorf, from where you can walk to the bridge. There is also a parking lot for campers in Mörsdorf. Dachstein Hangbrücke
Want to walk across the highest suspension bridge in Austria? For that, you need to go to the Dachstein Glacier. This glacier is located at an altitude of 2700 metres. If you stand on the suspension bridge, you can look 400 metres into the abyss. There is much more to do around the Dachstein Hangbrücke. For real daredevils, there is the Treppe ins Nichts lookout point, the Stairway to Nothing. Via fourteen steps you reach a glass platform, where you can look out over the glacier and the Alps. Via the suspension bridge you also reach an ice palace: the Dachstein Eispalast. Length: 100 metres

Highline179
The longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Tibetan style (a flexible bridge, supported by steel cables or ropes and with wooden or metal planks) can be found in the Austrian Tyrol. The Highline179 goes from the castle ruins of Ehrenberg to Fort Claudia. Along the way you look out over forests and the Fernpassstraße (B179).

Hängebrücke Holzgau
The Hängebrücke Holzgau presents itself as the highest and longest free pedestrian bridge in Austria and therefore fits perfectly in this list of breathtaking suspension bridges in Europe. This suspension bridge in the Lechtal crosses the Höhenbach gorge and is located near the Simms waterfall. The bridge is open 24 hours a day and is illuminated in the evening. The Lechwege, a long-distance hiking trail of 125 km, runs over the Hängebrücke Holzgau. Hikers can enjoy one of the routes around the bridge.

Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps
The comparison with the famous red bridge in San Francisco is quickly made when you see the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps in Saalbach. This suspension bridge is located in the Saalbach-Hinterglemm Valley and is part of the Baumzipfelweg, the highest treetop path in Europe. From the suspension bridge, hikers have a view of the valley below and the mountains.

Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge
The longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Switzerland is the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge, named after main sponsor Charles Kuonen. From the bridge you have a view of the Matterhorn, the Weisshorn and the Bernese Alps. The bridge is part of the long-distance hiking trail Europaweg from Grächen to Zermatt. From its opening in 2017 to 2021, it was the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world. The Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge can be reached with a long walk from Randa (2-2.5 hours), Grächen (6-7 hours) or Zermatt (6-7 hours). The bridge is closed in winter.

Peak Walk by Tissot
The Peak Walk by Tissot is the world’s only suspension bridge that connects two mountain peaks. This bridge on Glacier 3000 takes you from View Point, the viewing platform on the lower peak, to the 5-metre-higher main peak Scex Rouge. Along the way, you can enjoy iconic mountain peaks such as the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Hikers on the bridge are 3,000 metres above sea level and 80 metres above the glacier.

Triftbrücke
The Triftbrücke is a must-see in this list of breathtaking suspension bridges in Europe. This bridge in the Alps spans the Trift Glacier Lake, which provides a spectacular turquoise view. The mountain station of the Triftbahn is the starting point of a hike that ultimately leads over the Triftbrücke. The hike – there and back – takes between 2.5 – 3 hours.

Titlis Cliff Walk
For a long time, this was the highest pedestrian suspension bridge in Europe. The bridge in Engelberg is located at 3041 meters above sea level and has a height of 500 meters. The view of the Alps and the Titlis Glacier is breathtaking. You can get there by chairlift. From the Titlis you can also take the cable car with rotating gondolas, the Titlis Rotair. Access to the suspension bridge is free. You do have to pay for the chairlift and gondola.

Czech Republic: Sky Bridge 721
The opening of Sky Bridge 721 in 2022 will make the 516 Arouca Bridge lose its title as the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world. The bridge is located at Králický Sněžník Mountain. It is located in Dolní Morava, a mountain resort in the north-east of the Czech Republic, between the Eagle Mountains and the Jeseník Mountains. The Sky Bridge is named after its length of 721 metres and crosses the impressive Mlýnský Stream valley. Sky Bridge 721 can be reached via the upper station of the Sněžník chairlift.

Portugal: Ponte 516 Arouca
Long and high, that is the Ponte 516 Arouca in Portugal. Visitors can see the Paiva River below them, one of the wildest rivers in Europe. You can also enjoy the surrounding nature in this Natura 2000 area, where eagles, Iberian wolves and wild rabbits live. The Aguieiras waterfall is nearby. Tickets for the Ponte 516 Arouca are available online and by time slot.
