How much tax discount will you get on diesel in Spain in September?
The tax discount on diesel will rise from the previously planned 5 cents to 20 cents per litre as of 1 September 2026. This intervention is prompted by the monthly price increase of diesel, which rose to 15.7 per cent in July 2026. In March 2026, the Spanish government established an emergency measure to mitigate the impact of the war in Iran on energy prices. As soon as the price increase of a fuel exceeds the 15 per cent threshold in a single month, the automatic safety net clause is triggered.
Is the 20-cent-per-litre discount immediately visible at Spanish pumps?
No, the 20 cents is a reduction in the tax on diesel and not a guaranteed direct price cut at the pump. The final price per litre paid by motorhome owners is also determined by current crude oil prices, fuel station margins, and other market components. No extra discount on petrol
The extra discount only applies to diesel. The price of petrol rose by 7.3 per cent in July 2026, remaining well below the set threshold of 15 per cent. Therefore, the previously established tax discount of 5 cents per litre remains in force for petrol vehicles in September
