Excellent transit campsite in France: camping du Lac de Villegusien

Jos Mark

fter almost three weeks our holiday was almost over in August. We were looking for one more campsite in France for a last overnight stay. It became du Lac de Villegusien in the Haute-Marne. A campsite with pizza and a swimming pool and in a beautiful green environment, so a great transit campsite if you are travelling to or from the south.

he campsite is 630 kilometres from Utrecht, which is a perfect distance for a last day for us. We also have a few requirements for a transit campsite: not too far from the motorway, a swimming pool (albeit small) and a takeaway option for food. Camping du Lac de Villegusien meets all of these requirements.

Place next to an orchard

There are 91 tourist pitches, four mobile homes and four safari tents. Upon arrival – we came from camping Les Genêts d’Or, see below – the friendly receptionist told us that we could choose a spot ourselves. That turned out to be a nice spot next to an orchard that is next to the campsite. We only set up the sleeping area of our Fat Freddy, so that we could leave on time the next morning. Even though it is towards the end of August, it was already the 23rd when we left, in the morning we always have to wait until the dew has disappeared from the tent.

Camping facilities

There is a small swimming pool at the campsite. It was warm during our stay, so our boys liked to take a dip, although the water was a bit cold. Later they had a great time playing football on the fenced tennis court. There are also two ping-pong tables, a seesaw and a seesaw.

Restaurant

The campsite restaurant has a small terrace where you can eat or drink something. We chose to pick up a pizza, and the boys had an ice cream after dinner. You can also order delicious sandwiches for the next morning.

Sanitary facilities

You need a code for the sanitary building. I felt like I was at a youth camp from the 80s, because the showers and toilets are quite dated. It was clean, though, and that’s the most important thing.

Lac de Villegusien and surroundings

Camping du Lac de Villegusien is located at the Lac de la Vingeanne, where you can walk, cycle, do water sports and fish. There is much more to do in the area. For example, the fortified town of Langres, with its city wall and historic streets, is 15 kilometres from the campsite. Or drive 40 kilometres and visit Dijon, the capital of Burgundy. And around the campsite there is a lot of greenery to be found.

Overnight camping France

We found Du Lac de Villegusien a great campsite for one night. Don’t expect any bells and whistles, and the sanitary facilities could do with an update, but you can eat, drink and cool down after a day of travel. We could even stay a bit longer and then visit Dijon or Langres for example. For now we will remember this place as a transit campsite.
