Chausson combines two popular motorhomes into a single model: the new X640. This narrow low-profile motorhome is 6.55 metres long and just 2.10 metres wide. The Chausson X640 features a spacious bathroom, an impressive dressing area, and a garage.
The X-series has been around for several years now, combining the comfort of a low-profile motorhome with the compact dimensions of a campervan. Until now, the series consisted of the X550 and X650. The X650 made an impression with its large wardrobe at the rear but lacked space in the garage. Chausson has effectively crossed that model with the Chausson 640, a 2.35-metre-wide low-profile motorhome with a broadly similar layout.
The result is the new X640 on a Fiat Ducato with a 140 hp engine and manual gearbox. It is 19 centimetres longer than the X650 while keeping the compact width of 2.10 metres. Those extra centimetres give the Chausson a slightly roomier body, and that space is put to very good use.
The new X640 immediately catches the eye thanks to its spacious bathroom and large wardrobe. This wardrobe was already featured in the X650, but showering in that model took place in a combined bathroom with a space-saving shower screen. The X650 also had a rather small garage.
In the X640, Chausson has used the extra 19 centimetres to, among other things, create a fully-fledged bathroom, which is quite remarkable in a motorhome of this size. On the driver’s side is the shower – featuring a wooden duckboard, black showerhead, and black rear wall – and opposite is the toilet with a folding washbasin. The use of wrap-around mirrors is striking, including on the underside of the washbasin. When it is folded up, campers can quickly check their appearance, for example after brushing their teeth.
The wardrobe can be accessed from the bathroom. And it is huge! Featuring drawers on both sides and a hanging rail for clothes. Below it, a hatch provides internal access to the garage.
The Chausson X640 is equipped with face-to-face bench seats, which can be converted into two approved travel seats with Isofix mounts for transit. Combined with the swivelling cab seats, this provides four belted travel seats. The table consists of two parts. Folding one part down creates more legroom and floor space.
As standard, Chausson opts for the Lloyd finish combined with Cannes beige upholstery, creating a modern and fresh interior. The options list also includes the warm brown Mazamet tone, which gives the motorhome a completely different look.
Just like in the 640 low-profile model, the X640 does not have a fixed bed, but rather an electric drop-down bed measuring 1.90 x 1.40 metres. If desired, the bench seats can also be converted to create two additional berths.
In the kitchen of the Chausson X640 – located on the driver’s side – you will find six drawers and two overhead lockers. The kitchen unit features a two-burner gas hob and a square sink. The worktop can be extended on the side facing the bench seat. The tall fridge is located opposite.
Chausson is showcasing the X640 and more new products for the 2027 model year at the Caravan Salon, which kicks off at the end of August. Along with sister brand Challenger, also part of the Trigano Group, Chausson can be found in Hall 11.
