Polydrops P21

The Polydrops P21 is a striking presence in the caravan world

Jos Mark

Fans of traditional caravans might turn up their noses at the Polydrops P21. Environmentally conscious and modern campers, on the other hand, will undoubtedly be impressed by this futuristic caravan. The P21 is highly aerodynamic and equipped with solar panels.

The American brand Polydrops is already known for its teardrop models, the P17A and P19—lightweight caravans designed for electric tow vehicles. The new P21 is significantly larger, measuring 6.4 meters in length, 1.80 meters in width, and 2.3 meters in height, making it a true family caravan. However, thanks to its aerodynamic design and the use of lightweight materials, this caravan is also perfect for electric vehicles and smaller cars. Its empty weight is just 816 kilos.

Caravan with aerodynamic perfection

The P21, made of lightweight aluminum, minimizes air resistance with its wedge-shaped front and streamlined body. According to Promobil, tests show that a Tesla Model Y experiences only 75.8% more air resistance with this caravan, significantly less than with traditional caravans. A closed underbody and a small rear spoiler further enhance efficiency and driving stability.

Compact and practical interior

Thoughtful design isn’t limited to the exterior of the Polydrops P21. The caravan’s interior is sleek and minimalist, but with optional upgrades, it can be transformed into a comfortable travel retreat. The seating area at the rear converts into a double bed measuring 1.47 by 2.03 meters, while the front section offers a 1.47 by 1.50-meter bed for children.

The kitchenette comes standard with an electric cooktop, sink, and refrigerator. Optional features include a microwave, induction cooktop, and overhead cabinet. While the P21 doesn’t have a built-in bathroom, Polydrops offers a sanitary package—including a sink, shower, and toilet—for an additional €3,000.

Caravan with integrated solar panel

With the Polydrops P21, you’re not reliant on external power sources. The entire roof of the caravan is fitted with a 1.3 kW solar panel, which charges a 5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. A heat pump and air conditioning are included as standard.

Polydrops expects to launch the P21 in mid-2025 at a base price of $38,900, approximately €36,800. However, keep in mind additional transport costs, as this futuristic caravan is not yet available in Europe.
