Wiemobil 720 4×4 Performance: for campers on a budget

Wiemobil is based in the German state of Bavaria. The brand builds campers, sells used ones and rents out all kinds of campers. At the CMT in Stuttgart, two months ago, Wiemobil stole the show with the 720 4×4 Performance, an off-road bus camper with the Mercedes Sprinter as the base vehicle. The camper is available with a length of 6.96 meters or 7.38 meters.

Camper with snorkel

The Wiemobil 720 4×4 Performance in Stuttgart is a camper van that can take a beating. This off-road camper is equipped with, among other things:

• Four-wheel drive for good grip and stability.
• A snorkel that raises the air intake; an advantage when driving through low water or on dusty roads.
• The higher air intake prevents water, sand or dirt from getting into the engine.
• Protective plates (skid plates) for the front axle, transfer case and fuel tank, protection of the brake hoses on the rear axle and mudguards for the shock absorbers.
• Multiple differential locks, so that both wheels on an axle always receive the same amount of power.
• This ensures better traction on difficult terrain and prevents loss of grip in mud, sand or snow.
• Track spacers on the rear axle for stability.
• Off-road 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires from BF Goodrich.
• Air suspension on the rear axle.
• A spare wheel holder including spare wheel.
• Bullbar with LED lights
• An electric winch with a pulling force of up to 4500 to 5000 kg.

Self-sufficient camping

For trips off the beaten track, it is useful to be as self-sufficient as possible. That is why the Wiemobil 720 4×4 Performance is equipped with a Truma 6D E, a powerful diesel heater with integrated electric heating elements. For the energy supply, the camper van has a 1200 Ah lithium battery, a 12V to 230V inverter with a total capacity of max. 3.6 KW, a 300 watt solar panel (400 is optional) and a charging booster. On warm days, the Dometic roof fan – with app – is a godsend.

The fresh water tank has a generous capacity of 230 litres and the capacity of the heated waste water tank is 95 litres.

Interior Wiemobil 720 4x4 Performance

Four people can travel and sleep in the Wiemobil 720 4×4 Performance. The dinette bench offers space for two people and the cabin seats are rotatable. Above the seating area hangs a lifting bed for two people. There is also a lifting bed (1.90 x 1.50 meters) in the back.

The straight kitchen has an extension of the worktop, a round sink with black tap, a two-burner gas stove (induction is optional) and a 90-liter fridge-freezer. In the bathroom there is a sink, a shower and a Clesana C1 dry toilet. You can also shower outside the camper with the special outdoor shower.

Hefty price tag

As mentioned, this is not a camper for campers who have to watch their budget. In Germany, the Wiemobil 720 4×4 Performance has a price tag of 275,865 euros. In the Netherlands, bpm and some VAT would be added to that.
