Comfortable in the cold: 5 winter-proof campers

Marije Onderwaater

A camper is a perfect camping vehicle to go on the road with in the winter. Do you want to go out in the darkest months of the year and sit comfortably? Then take a look at these five winter-proof campers.

Winter-suitable, winter-hardy and winter-hardy

Not every camper or caravan is suitable for winter conditions. Terms such as winter-suitable, winter-proof and winter-hardy indicate how well your camping equipment can withstand the cold, but what exactly is the difference? We will list this in the article below. Useful to read before you look at this list of winter-proof campers.

Kabe Imperial i790 LQB

All Kabe campers and caravans are extremely suitable for travelling in the winter months. The camping equipment from Sweden is built to withstand extreme cold. They have a thick roof, sturdy walls, strong tyres and a well-insulated floor. In addition, the campers and caravans are equipped with an advanced heating and ventilation system. This also applies to the Kabe Imperial i790 LQB. This 7.90 metre long integral camper is the shortest in the Imperial series and is equipped with an L-shaped seating area and a queen-size bed.

Travelling with the Kabe Imperial i790 LQB is possible in summer and winter. In cold months, this Swedish integral camper is comfortably warm thanks to, among other things, the Alde Compact 3030 central heating, the underfloor heating, the double windows, the thermal curtain and the excellent insulation. All water tanks are frost-resistant.

The Kabe Imperial i790 LQB has a starting price of 245,015 euros.

Globe-Traveller Falcon 2YS

Winter camping in a camper van? This is possible with the Globe-Traveller Falcon 2YS. This 5.99 long camper van is the third model in the Falcon series from the Polish camper manufacturer Globe-Traveller. The Falcon 2YS has a spacious round seat in the back. At night, the benches can be converted into a bed of 2.05 x 1.24 metres. The head end is adjustable, which makes it comfortable to read or watch a series. The cabin seats can be rotated, so that there is also a seat in the front. The table that is between the benches in the back can also be used in this place.

A removable rear wall is part of the standard equipment. This wall can be placed against the rear doors to prevent the cold and provides extra insulation. The Falcon 2YS has a double bottom, good insulation, a 120 Wp solar panel and a 210 AH lithium battery. This means that this camper van on the Volkswagen Crafter is suitable for going on the road all year round.

In Germany, the Falcon 2YS is available from 128,615 euros.

Malibu Genius 641 LE

Malibu, part of the Carthago Group, surprised us last summer with a 6.41-metre long camper van based on the Mercedes Sprinter. The surprise was that there were no Sprinters of this size at all. Because Malibu did not want to choose a larger model, it decided to use the 5.93-metre long Sprinter and developed an innovative rear extension for it. Thanks to this rear extension, Malibu can fit everything it wants in the Sprinter. For example, there is room for single beds of 2 metres in length. The Genius also has a classic camper van layout with a dinette and swivelling cabin seats. Malibu also uses its own two-room concept. By opening the bathroom door completely, it serves as a partition between the kitchen and sitting area, and the bathroom and the bed.

A Truma Combi D 6 E provides warmth in the winter. An optional height kit is available for this, which also keeps it comfortably warm inside at altitudes of 1500 to 2750 metres. The tanks and pipes find a frost-free spot in the heated double floor. The GVK sandwich construction ensures high-quality insulation. In combination with the elimination of possible cold bridges, the Malibu Genius 641 LE is also suitable for camping in the winter.

The Malibu Genius 641 LE is available from 156,960 euros.

Hymer B-MC T BlackLine

Hymer only has winter-proof campers, including the Hymer B-MC T BlackLine. This camper is part of the B-MC series – B-Class ModernComfort –, which consists of semi-integrated and integrated campers on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis. In the special B-MC BlackLine Edition for 2025, five floor plans will have an exterior in silver and black. Hymer has created an urban atmosphere in the interior, with a concrete-look floor.

The Hymer B-MC T BlackLine is very suitable for winter camping. This is partly due to the use of PU foam, which ensures well-insulated walls. According to Hymer, the thermal insulation of the campers is even comparable to brick walls of around 80 centimetres thick. Furthermore, the double floor is heatable, which means that the installations and tanks are protected against frost. Hymer campers with hot air heating are tested at Truma in Munich before they come to the showroom. For campers with hot water heating, this is done at Alde in Sweden. An Arctic package is also available as an option, including a cabin dividing curtain and additional heating.

The starting price of the Hymer B-MC BlackLine Edition is 153,940 euros

Hobby Optima Ontour Edition F V65 GE

Winter-proof campers and caravans can also be found at Hobby. “As a North German company with neighbours in Scandinavia, we know what is important when camping in winter,” says the brand from Fockbek itself. The campers are equipped as standard with winter ventilation – which ensures a good indoor climate – for the seating area, cupboards and beds, an insulated roof hatch, secondary glazing with double glazing and insulated wheel arches.

This also applies to the Hobby Optima Ontour Edition F V65 GE, which the company launched on the market at the beginning of last year. Like all other campers, this semi-integrated has excellent insulation, so you can also go on the road with it in winter. The tanks and pipes are located in the heated double floor. According to Hobby, the campers can even withstand outside temperatures down to -20 °C. The Optima Ontour Edition F V65 GE is equipped with a Truma Combi 6 heater with frost valve, which prevents the drain from freezing and guarantees the water supply.

The Hobby Optima Ontour Edition F V65 GE on the Fiat Ducato is available from 100,800 euros.
