Caravan Salon Premiere: Electric motorhome on EV chassis

You can bet that Hall 13 at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf will be busy starting next week. Vöhringer and CityFreighter will be showcasing their remarkable concept vehicle there for the first time: an electric camper designed from the ground up as an EV.

The study model is a collaboration between Germany’s Vöhringer (a leading German specialist in, among other things, lightweight interior materials), the American company CityFreighter, developer of electric vehicles and pioneer in emission-free urban transport, and the Dutch design agency Motive Development, which specialises in mobility design. Together, they developed the concept of an electric camper on a purpose-built platform.

What makes the electric camper concept by Vöhringer, CityFreighter, and Motive Development unique?

Unlike many existing electric campers, this study model is not built on a traditional van chassis, but on a battery-powered platform: Evolve by CityFreighter. This is a modular, software-controlled 800V low-floor platform with a completely flat floor, low entry, and plenty of living space.

Lightweight sandwich panels

Vöhringer was responsible for the interior. For this, the company uses the new Airply sandwich panels, which are lighter than plywood panels. A lower unladen weight increases the payload capacity of the camper.

What range can we expect?

Of course, the electric camper from Vöhringer and CityFreighter is still a study model. However, we can say something about the Evolve platform. On its own website, CityFreighter speaks of a range of 400 kilometres. Thanks to the powerful 800V technology and fast-charging performance of over 200 kW DC, a short break is enough to recharge most of the battery.

Optimal range

An integrated heat pump regulates the thermal management, ensuring the range is optimally maintained even in cold weather. CityFreighter also mentions a maximum permissible weight of 4,250-5,000+ kg and an unladen weight of 2,500 kg.

We will definitely be taking a look in Hall 13 at the Caravan Salon to see what possibilities this interesting study model has to offer.
