Hobby Excellent 460sl

Single beds, double the comfort in these Hobby caravans

Martine van der Klauw

More and more campers swear by single beds in their caravans. No more climbing over each other in the middle of the night, easier to get in and out, and no disturbance from a restless partner. So it's no surprise that the single bed layout is becoming increasingly popular in caravans. Hobby even offers it in multiple models, including the 460 DL OnTour and the 540 UL De Luxe.

Once upon a time, a caravan had a round seating area, a French bed, and a small toilet tucked away in the corner. But times change, and in 2025 there are far more layout options. One layout that’s gaining popularity is the one with single beds. And that makes perfect sense, especially as you get older and find yourself making that familiar trip to the bathroom more often at night. Climbing over your partner in the pitch dark with an urgent need isn’t pleasant for anyone. With two separate beds, that problem is a thing of the past. And if you still want to snuggle up together? You can simply join the beds to create a spacious double bed.

Hobby offers a variety of caravans with single beds in their range, from the compact OnTour to the luxurious Excellent. Here are a few highlights:

Hobby OnTour 460 DL

The entry-level caravan from the German manufacturer is available in three models, and the 460 DL features single beds placed lengthwise. With a total length of 6.61 meters and a maximum weight of 1,350 kilograms, this is a compact caravan suitable for smaller tow cars. It includes single beds of 197/187 x 77 cm (l x w) at the front, a well-equipped bathroom and kitchen in the center, and a cozy seating area at the back. The Hobby OnTour 460 DL has everything you need for a comfortable journey. And if the (grand)kids drop by unexpectedly? No problem, as the seating area at the back can quickly be converted into an extra sleeping space.

Hobby De Luxe 495 UL and 540 UL

Looking for more space but still want single beds? Check out the De Luxe series, which includes the 495 UL and the 540 UL. The single beds in the 495 UL are slightly longer at 205/190 x 77 cm (l x w), the kitchen is larger, and the spacious round seating area is perfect for evenings with a good glass of wine and a game of Rummikub. The same applies to the even larger 540 UL, with two single beds measuring 193 x 82 cm. The light furniture and upholstery, matte white upper cabinet doors, and anthracite-colored kitchen give the Hobby De Luxe a modern look.

Hobby Excellent & Excellent Edition

For the camper who wants to go all out, the Excellent models are the perfect choice. These come with ambient lighting, a large fridge, a wide access door, and standard HobbyConnect to control the onboard technology from your smartphone.

The 460 SL Excellent (pictured above this article) is compact enough for easy travel but packed with features. And if you’re looking for something truly special, you can choose from the Excellent Edition series, including the 495 UL or 540 UL, which offer even more luxury and an even more refined finish. And of course, they come with comfortable single beds.
