If you take an e-bike with you in your camper or caravan, you’re usually carrying an extra 30 kilos. Unless that bike is the Cube Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 SLT 400X. This e-bike weighs just 16 kilos.
The Kathmandu is one of Cube’s most popular e-bikes. The German manufacturer has now developed a new model that stands out for its extremely low weight. The Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 SLT 400X weighs just 16 kilos. A low weight is useless if it comes at the expense of quality, but this new e-bike has not made any compromises.
The reason the SLT 400X is so extremely lightweight lies in its frame. Instead of aluminum, it is made from ultra-light carbon.
Additionally, the e-bike is equipped with the new Bosch Performance SX motor, which is also lightweight. Despite its compact size, it delivers a powerful 55Nm of torque, providing strong support—even for climbing in the mountains with the help of the 12-speed Shimano XT gearing.
The 400 Wh Bosch Compact battery is neatly integrated into the frame. This capacity allows for a ride of 80 to 100 kilometers, which is more than enough for the average user. Need more range? Simply attach the Bosch PowerMore Range Extender to the frame for an additional 250 Wh of power.
We think so, especially if you’re looking for an e-bike to take on vacation. Two of these e-bikes together weigh less than 33 kilos, which is about 20 kilos lighter than two average models. You’ll notice this difference not only when lifting the bikes onto a rack but also while driving with your caravan, for example.
This Cube Kathmandu isn’t cheap at €4,799. If that’s too expensive but you still like the model, take a look at the SLX. It costs €3,999 and is essentially the same lightweight e-bike, just with slightly different components, a different Shimano gear system, and slightly heavier wheels. Still, at 17.2 kilos, it remains extremely light.
And if you find the Kathmandu too big, Cube also offers an interesting compact e-bike: the Cube Compact. Still too large? Then go for the Cube Fold Hybrid folding bike, which fits into practically any camper garage.
